Visit at the maternity station
Today we went to the public hospital Befelatanana in Antananarivo. Mrs. Telina, the social assistant gave us an overview of the social cases she is working with at the moment. One incident was especially heartbreaking. Yesterday a 32 year old women was brought to hospital where she gave birth through a cesarian. The baby is presently in intensive care. According to a psychologial report the mum is disabled and has the mental state of a 2 year old. What makes the situation even worse is the fact that the baby is the result of rape. The mum does not have the ability to understand what has happened to her and that she is now a mother. Her family is very poor and cannot afford the medication and treatment for mother and child. We have bought and organized everything necessary and will visit them again tomorrow.
